I do not set exact prices. I follow the many concepts of "gift economy": sliding scale, Creative Commons, knowledge banks, mutual aid, etc. I depend on you to choose a donation amount that reflects a balance between the need to keep Joel paying his rent in expensive San Francisco and the level you can really afford.

Two more elements of an informed donation decision:

The base rate (minimum) of $80 allows Joel to just break even on hard costs such as equipment rental, materials and a hired assistant needed to feed curtains through the press.

Most people choose an additional donation in the $140 to $300 range, since this permanent, washable art is individually printed by hand by Joel using a complex process (see video), and is based on years of research and design work. Lower and higher amounts are also acceptable. If you can't afford in that range, any amount over the base rate that you choose to offer is wonderful and very much appreciated.
